Burnett and Wandy Rodriguez, both of whom are due off the disabled list soon. And it appears, in Jordy Mercer, a third-round 2008 draft pick out of Oklahoma State, they may finally have a shortstop who can provide some pop. Mercer, who took over short from offensively challenged Clint Barmes a couple of weeks ago, is hitting .285 with four homers while the Pirates won nine of the first 12 games he started.
