Malcolm chuckles. ‘There are no rules,’ she says. ‘In that beginning of The Journalist and the Murderer I stated, in a very larger-than-life way, what the problem was. It was a piece of rhetoric – when it first came out, many journalists were miffed about it, and said, “I don’t do that!” Now it’s kind of a truism. I think you just have to accept that this is a problematic line of work.’
