Above all the Mayer piece was an exercise in branding, and it’s a bit of a shame that a lot of people in the journalism/content business don’t ‘get’ that. I think Buzzfeed in particular has been relentless in these kind of branding exercises, and IMO they’ve been one of the key pillars to its success over the past few years.
