It is to the festival’s credit that, soaked to the bone, the swaying hippy dancing that’s WOMAD’s stock in trade did not abate one iota. In fact, outside the Big Red Tent as Trinidadian steel pan maestro Fimber Bravo whipped up an electronically enhanced storm, a circle of about 30 bodies, from teens in bra tops to grizzled veterans in ethnic pantaloons, flailed energetically in a monsoon-level drenching, splashing each other, slipping about, grinning and having a blast.
